Pastoral Support Worker

Teachright East Anglia are looking for Pastoral Support Workers for our client secondary schools and specialist behaviour schools (PRU) across the county of Essex. We cover all areas of Essex and look for candidates in all parts of the county to work locally to their homes - not sending you more than 45 minutes away at any given time.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is able to work well with young people. Under the guidance of the Pastoral Manager you will be working as part of a team to help students make better choices and engage positively in their learning. You may also work on a one to one or small group basis with students.

More about the role

  • You will be looking after the welfare of students in your setting (aged 11 - 16)
  • Working pro-actively to provide suitable interventions to remove barriers to emotional well being and learning
  • Ensure all administrative duties are carried out effectively.
  • You will enjoy dealing with a range of students, including the most challenging, with firmness and sensitivity.
  • You must be self-motivated, confident, energetic and positive at all times while ensuring behaviour issues are addressed.
  • You will need excellent communication skills as you will be required to liaise with a range of professionals, students and maintain close parental contact.

Qualities and experience we look for:

  • Prior experience working with children or vulnerable adults - perhaps you've worked in schools or a care background before?
  • Experience working in high stress/high pressure environment - Ex military or Ex Police force maybe?
  • Qualifications relating to education or medical/care.
  • A passion for education and want the opportunity to make a real difference to a child's life.

Pay & Working Hours

Pastoral support workers are typically paid between £10.50 and £12 per hour. Income figures are intended as a guide only.

Full-time pastoral support workers usually work between 32 & 35 hours per week. Starting the school day at 8.30am and finishing at 3.30pm - 4pm with a 30 minute lunch break. There are also part-time, casual and job share options available.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position, but it may become permanent at a later date upon school discretion.
